While the United States does not currently have a sugar tax, such a bill is being introduced this year. Advocates point to the useful ways in which these tax dollars could be used to fund public parks as well as city and education programs. They also point to the data on the relationship between reduced sugar intake and increased oral health. Finally, they propose that sugar taxes would help draw attention to intake habits that have been normalized such as drinking sugar through juice and soda.
